Sanya Malik, founder and director of Black Cube Gallery, is carving a distinctive path in India’s art scene with a vision rooted in accessibility, innovation, and deep academic grounding. Growing up in New Delhi, Malik was immersed in the rich cultural milieu of Indian art from an early age. Surrounded by luminaries such as Himmat Shah and Krishen Khanna, her formative years instilled an innate connection to creativity and a profound respect for artistic expression. This environment not only inspired her but also shaped her resolve to dedicate her career to the arts.

 

Malik’s academic journey reflects her commitment to understanding the nuances of art and its curation. She pursued a Bachelor’s in Criticism and Curation of Art from Central Saint Martins, London, and followed it with a Master’s in Curating Contemporary Art at the prestigious Royal College of Art. Her early career saw her working across diverse facets of the art ecosystem, including collaborations with street art organizations, art fairs, and art foundations, providing her with a multi-dimensional perspective on the industry.
