Gaurab Das

Gaurab Das, born in 1992 in Bagerhat, Bangladesh, is a sculptor known for his dynamic and expressive works in bronze, wood, and stone. His early fascination with sculpture was shaped by his father, a commercial artist, and the local idol-makers he observed in his childhood. Encouraged by their craftsmanship, he began experimenting with clay, setting the foundation for his artistic journey.

Das pursued his formal education at Khulna Art College, where he developed a deep appreciation for traditional Indian sculptural forms. Seeking to refine his skills further, he moved to India to study at Kala Bhavana, Santiniketan, where he earned an Advanced Diploma in Fine Arts in Sculpture. Immersed in Santiniketan’s rich artistic legacy, he honed his craft and established his unique sculptural language.

In recognition of his talent, Das was awarded the prestigious Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant in 2019, a highly regarded honor for emerging artists. His work has been featured in numerous exhibitions, including his first solo showcase at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kolkata. He has also participated in several group exhibitions in both India and Bangladesh.

Currently based in Santiniketan, Das continues to explore the possibilities of sculptural form, pushing boundaries with his distinctive artistic approach. His work reflects a deep engagement with materiality, tradition, and contemporary narratives, establishing him as a significant voice in the world of sculpture.
